Curtis hesitated for a moment and said, “I will hibernate in the cold season.”
Hibernation is the main reason for the high death rate of females of snake beasts. According to his memory, at least half of these females died around the cold season.
Maybe he had done the right choice by letting that leopard stay by Snow’s side.
Bai Qingqing thought about his words for a while, and asked uncertainly, “Do you think the water’s too cold? Can you go in and grab something for me?”
Curtis’s tail dipped into the water, the tip wrapped the fishing basket below, and a rattling sound came out as he raised it out of the water.
“Yes, yes, that’s it!” Bai Qingqing smiled greatly as she grabbed the basket and pointed to the other directions excitedly. “There are four more down there. One ever there, then there, and two over there!”
Curtis does not need to go into the water as he will just grab it with his tail. After grabbing all five baskets, it seems that one of them was broken.
Bai Qingqing shook the broken fish basket and found out there are still fishes in it. As she took a closer look, she nearly died from the rotten stench of the dead fishes she inhaled.
“Why is it broken?” Bai Qingqing pinched her nose as she murmured downheartedly.
Curtis felt a little guilty. When he came here yesterday, he seemed to break something underneath him. Was that it?
“Snow, don’t cry. I’ll help you make another one.” Curtis coaxingly said.
“It’s fine. These baskets are amazing at catching fish. Four should be enough.” Bai Qingqing shakes the other fine basket and could tell that it’s almost full. Roughly, their catch was at least twice as much as yesterday.
They take it all back to the house after putting the baskets back into the river. Their haul was hefty and the most surprising thing was she got some of her favorite lobsters too.
But the thing with the dead fishes still gnawing at Bai Qingqing. She already analyzed that if the traps were to put down there for a long time, the fishes will still survive.
“I’ll be the one to cook it today.” Parker grabbed the fishes in Bai Qingqing’s hand. “I’ve already learned how. You can go sit in the nest and I’ll call you when it’s done.”
“Alright, then.” Bai Qingqing nodded but when Parker went out, she began to prepare the firewood.
Although she often waits for dinner at home, she is not used to being served by a nonrelative. And even if she’s going to get used to Parker’s care, she’s not going to sit idly still.
Curtis decided to cook rice for Bai Qingqing and quietly poured out some grains into a stone bowl. Then he took the bamboo tube to the river to scoop water.
In a short time, the wonderful aroma of bamboo rice and stewed fish blended in the air.
Curtis skillfully picked up the bamboo tube with two sticks, and handed it to Bai Qingqing after uncovering the lid. “Snow, have some rice.”
When Parker saw this, he quickly handed the chopsticks to Bai Qingqing and said, “Qingqing, the fish is done. You should eat some of my fish first.”
When Bai Qingqing grabbed the chopsticks first, she immediately felt Curtis releasing a cold aura. She quickly grabbed the bamboo tube from his hand. “I like to eat them together.”
Both beastmen wondered how she could eat it together and thought it impossible. Bai Qingqing carefully demonstrated it in front of them so they’ll know how. She took a small fish from the pot and put it on top of the rice and ate it with relish.
With just putting the food into her mouth, Bai Qingqing was moved to tears. After crossing to this world, she has finally eaten some decent meal.
Parker was curious. He stared at Bai Qingqing for a while and asked, “Is it really that good?”
“Yeah, and it tasted the best when you eat a dish with rice at the same time. Would you like to try it?” Bai Qingqing felt that Curtis has been left out, so she shyly offered him as well, “Would you like to try it, too?”
Curtis flatly rejected her offer with a turn of his head.
“No, thanks!” Parker replied immediately. He would not dare touch the food cooked by the snake. And rice is so rare that he was always reluctant to eat it.
Bai Qingqing felt sorry for them, shaking her head and saying, “It’s a pity that you don’t get to taste this delicious meal, then.”
